Designer and founder of BOSCO; Midori Sakurai has over 23 years of experience in designing jewelry and accessories using gold leaf, platinum, diamonds, organic pearls and other precious stones.
She also creates unique designs for wristwatches, packaging and a variety of other areas

Midori combines her elaborate artistry with a classic frame-making technique generating an unprecedented series of BOSCO accessories.
These items a re radically avant-garde - integrating collections of organic stones, minerals, fossils and trade beads and Japanese lacquer. Midori deeply senses where to find such natural organic materials. She believes her jewelry is the ‘jewelry of the earth’. Her pieces carry a special message; they are all organic and eco-friendly - each piece symbolizing the natural organic state of the earth.

BOSCO is Italian for `forest` and Midori brings out the expression of the forest in her work: She hand carves wooden jewelry inspired by the natural earth and raw elements. BOSCO jewelry is the forest seen through a ‘Baroque’ prism. There are 3 primary themes woven into this concept; Arkansas, primitive heart and golden seed.

Arkansas embodies a new shoot on the verge of growth.
Primitive Heart injects the feeling of awe towards the forest.
Golden Seed represents berries, nuts and buds that are scattered amongst the foliage.

Midori’s technique is extremely unique and requires immense workmanship. Hand-carved Linden wood is coated with layers of glue and plaster, and then finished with pure gold or silver leaf. Beneath the gold leaf is a red pigment called diatomite that accentuates the luster of the leaf as well as creating a richness behind the soft shades of gold. If you imagine an old frame around a Renaissance painting - then you can gain some idea of the technique and process employed to create BOSCO jewelry. Already in use before the 14th century, this picture framing technique is being applied to produce everlasting accessories made for 100% natural materials.

Midori has been successful in launching a number of high profile exhibitions in both Tokyo and New York and will continue to travel worldwide displaying her collections.
